This course has passed.
Regional accreditation is used to recognise someone who is a skilled amateur volunteer. A Regional qualified official will need to be able to demonstrate a higher level of knowledge than a club level official and also be able to demonstrate a practical level of competence of the required skills in their discipline before they can be awarded accreditation. Regional level officials may have considerable sailing or officiating experience and be able to display an aptitude for good judgement. They will often will take on a leadership role within their team or be a key decision maker. Regional level officials will begin to be invited to fill team roles at championship level events, often not just held at their own club. Pre Requisites to this accreditation are having passed the Race management exam, attendance at the most recent Race and Regatta Management workshop and a portfolio of evidence detailing the events that you assisted the PRO. This accreditation requires renewal every 4 yrs in line with the RRS revision by Wolrd Sailing. The renewal wil be attending the will be attending the Regatta and Race Management Workshop scheduled at that time.
Programme Overview
The SA Sailing Regional Race Officer Programme is designed to bring Race Officers who hold a Club/District Race Officer certificate to a level that they can be certified as Regional Race Officers and importantly be used as a refresher for current Regionally Accredited Race Officers. A refresher workshop is a pre-requisite in renewing the RO certificate.
This programme forms part of the formal SA Sailing Race Officer’s framework up to National level competition. The programme is made up of theory-based race and regatta workshop and practical experience with regional competition. Accreditation is valid for 4 years.
Programme Prerequisites
- Be a min of 18 years of age
- Attend a Regional Race and Regatta Management Virtual Workshop, facilitated by a SA Sailing.
- A portfolio of evidence of having demonstrated capability as Club/District Race Officer which includes
Renewing RO: a minimum of 4 Regional events or 10 Club races and 1 Regional event.
New appointments: Must work under a mentor(S) SA Sailing appointed Regional Officer and must Watch-one regionals and Do-one Regional event under mentorship. Letters of recommendation from mentors are required for application process
Programme Format
The Current format of the programme is a Virtual Race and Regatta Management Workshop facilitated by SA Sailing. Certification for this level of training will only be considered on the completion of the Workshop and receipt of a portfolio of evidence.
The programme is updated regularly to include relevant aspects of the new racing rules, recommended best practices and any updates to the SA Sailing policies and procedures. As a result, additional modules may become required to keep accreditations active.
Programme Outcome
The successful candidate will be able to officiate at Regional, Club or District competitions and assist at higher levels of competition.
On completion, the successful candidate will be awarded a SA Sailing Regional Race Officer Certificate
Course evaluation
Candidates will be assessed on the portfolio of evidence submitted. Written and or practical assessments may apply.
