Class Associations seeking to affiliate with SA Sailing for the 2025 membership year must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be a National Class Association that represents all related Regions or fleets, or:
- Nominate only one region/ fleet association as a proxy if no national body exists
- Have a Constitution
- Be an Incorporated Association
- Keep class office bearers registration current i.e. org chart
- Have representative team selection policies that follow SA Sailing guidelines and be approved by SA Sailing
- Indicate event pathway classification the class wishes to follow for 2026 (i.e. Pathway, Elective Premier or recreational classes)
- Catergory definitions
- Pathway Classes: Fully comply with international criteria (IOC/World Sailing), participate in high
performance development structures, and require SA Sailing approval for event sanctioning. - Elective Premier Classes: Domestically competitive classes which may opt into the full approval
process and be eligible for recognition. - Recreational Classes: Focused on participation, transformation, and access. May proceed without
formal application but must register events with SA Sailing and meet baseline safety and Race Officer
requirements.
- Pathway Classes: Fully comply with international criteria (IOC/World Sailing), participate in high

- Must be compliant with SA Sailing Constitution requirements for Class Associations under its recognition See : Governance - South African Sailing page of the SA Sailing website for the documents and policies.
- Provide a copy of the Class Safeguading Policy
- Provide details of the Class's Designated Safeguarding Officer(s) (DSO)
