The syllabuses for SAS Skippers tickets (more correctly described as Certificates of Competence or CoC’s) from Day Skipper to Yachtmaster have been totally revised to reflect changes in technology such as GPS. We have also introduced a Local Waters certificate of competence for Day Skippers who want to progress to night sailing but do not yet have the night hours required for a Coastal Skipper.
This revised system came into effect on 1 January 2009. The details – syllabuses, examination processes, sample chartwork questions, etc - are all available on this web site.

Please be aware that the details of the syllabuses printed in SAS log books bought before 2009 are now out of date.
SAS would like to thank Jannie Hofmeyr (Good Hope Sailing Academy), Kelvin Thomas (Senior Examiner North) and Russell Sher (Senior Examiner South) for the complete redrafting of the SAS syllabus and all supporting material.
